FOR THE BEDROOM: TO PROMOTE SLEEP

Color has the ability to affect our mood and emotions, as well as our sleep. Feeling relaxed and happy in our own bedrooms can promote more restful sleep. Pastel and muted shades are typically better for sleep than more vibrant ones, as bold colors can have an energizing effect.

But this doesn't mean you should only paint your bedroom white. In fact, one study by Travelodge found that households that have blue bedrooms received the best night's sleep compared to any other color. This makes sense, as so many calming things around us are blue -- like the sky and the ocean. Painting your room blue can promote a feeling of serenity and calmness.

When picking out a blue, opt for lighter colors. Our favorite blue is North Star by Sherwin Williams. This is the perfect color for an accent wall, a piece of furniture, or even for your doors, as Brittany did in her home.

FOR THE KITCHEN: TO CREATE ENERGY

For most of us, the first thing we do in the morning after we wake up is walk into our kitchen to grab a cup of coffee. That's why we want our kitchens to have an energizing atmosphere. For this effect, using white in your kitchen is usually the best approach. It feels fresh and clean and helps to wake you up the second you walk in.

One of our favorites is Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. It's such a versatile and soft option that creates a welcoming feeling for your kitchen.

Think white's too boring? You can have more fun in your countertops, backsplash or even your cabinets if you want to add a pop of color.

FOR THE SUNROOM: TO CREATE A COOLING EFFECT

If you have a sunroom or any room with lots of windows, you might notice that it gets a little too hot in the summer months. But the good news is that you don't have to invest in curtains or shades to cover up your views. Paint can actually absorb light to keep your room cool.

Lighter colors are most effective in creating a cool environment. Light blue is an excellent choice as it has the same cool color characteristics as white but still provides a sense of depth. Some beautiful blue tones are Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams, Lagoon by Sherwin Williams, and Harbor Light by PPG.

Gray colors are also cooler because they absorb light. Cool grey paint colors are typically lighter in tone. Examples of cool grey paint colors are Gray Clouds by Sherwin Williams, Shadow Gray by Benjamin Moore, and Soho Loft by Benjamin Moore. A cool gray like Duck Egg by Farrow & Ball is also an excellent choice because it doesn't have the blue tone that many grays carry.

FOR THE OFFICE: TO PROMOTE PRODUCTIVITY

For so many of us, working from home is the new norm, so our offices have become much more important. Choosing the right color can help with your creativity and productivity.

While blue is generally thought of as the color that most stimulates the mind, we also believe a sense of calm and reassurance is important in an office. One of our favorite colors for an office is green, as it represents harmony, nature and restoration. It's also a great color for those who work long hours, as its easy on the eyes. Green is also the color of balance, which is a huge part of successful work life.

Christa used Current Mood by Clare Paints in her office to create a moody effect and promote creativity.

Green is a fantastic color for an office, but if you want something with a little more energy and pizzazz, opt for pops of yellow. It can boost your productivity because it stimulates your mind and helps to keep you alert throughout the day -- perfect for those long days sitting at the desk!

The best thing about using paint in your home is that it can be changed out whenever you want to change the mood or refresh your space -- no moving furniture required! So if you're looking for an easy way to refresh a room or bring some more personality into one of your spaces, try one of the fun and inspiring colors mentioned above!
